Mr. Gardner moved to Lawrence, Kansas when he was three and although he has lived various places considers Lawrence his home.
From being a police officer for the City of Lawrence from 1978 to his retirement in 1994, Don Gardner has also been involved with community organizations and is an active community member in Lawrence in many ways. One of his favorite community activities is the "Jingle Bell Run".
The most recognizable contribution that Don Gardner has made to the Lawrence community for over twenty years is "Red Dog’s Dog Days". "I’m a big supporter of kids staying in shape while participating in their sport. It takes a lot of dedicated people to make the program work and I’m grateful to all of them."
Mr. Gardener also enjoys his part-time work at the University of Kansas as the KU Athletic Department Supervisor of Attendance Takers. It is through this relationship that Mr. Gardener has received the privilege of using the University of Kansas facilities for "Red Dog’s Dog Days."
Mr. Gardener and his wife Beverly enjoy community involvement and when they are not busy with their volunteer work they enjoy traveling, physical fitness, yard work and spending time with their friends.
